Medicinal herbs are intrinsic components of the ancient healing traditions of Thailand, Fresh and dry herbs and rhizomes are mixed to prepare poultices, teas, bath infusions and herbal compresses. The compresses are steamed, and applied to the body to relieve stress and to bring about a calm state of mind. The course presents a basic working knowledge of the medicinal properties of major Thai herbs. We prepare poultices, compresses, bath infusions and herbal teas. There is discussion, demonstration, mixing, tasting, and application techniques in bodywork. We discuss conditions that are suited for treatment with various herbs, and review Thai massage techniques and concepts using hot herbal compresses. The effects of a Thai herbal   compress session can be truly amazing; aches and pains seem to fade away, and you feel relaxed yet energized. All materials are included, and students return home with samples of teas and infusions.

Fri-Sat-Sun, Sept. 8-10, 2017  – $425

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. – 20 hours CEU, NCBTMB and THAI

This course presents advanced techniques and concepts for working the upper back, shoulders, shoulder blades, clavicle, neck, head and face. Working in all four body positions, we explore a wide variety of techniques using feet, palms, forearms, elbows, thumbs and fingers.

Participants explore many new and interesting techniques to release stored tension through stretches, compressions, fascia release, and opening techniques. We also review and refine traditional Thai techniques for the shoulders, upper back, and neck. Finally, a number of manual techniques and pressure points for the head and face are presented, many of which are not usually taught in general Thai massage classes. Herbal balms and tinctures are used for some of the face and neck techniques. Participants have ample time to give and receive each day.

We will work on floor mats, in Thai style, but many of the techniques are adaptable to other modalities, including table massage. This is always an enjoyable workshop – the mood is meditative, and everyone loves to receive work on their shoulders, neck, head and face. Join us for this fun and exciting workshop.
